A little bit about Kayla Thoennes, Owner of Woodcrest Assisted Living
I have dedicated my life to serving our elderly community since 2005. My journey began as a caregiver in a 20-bed assisted living community specializing in memory care. The company quickly recognized my potential and supported me through training to become their Food Manager. Shortly after completing my courses, I was promoted to Dietary Director, then Assistant Director, and eventually Executive Housing Director.
After years of hard work, professional growth, and a deepening passion for senior care, I realized it was time to pursue my lifelong dream—what is now Woodcrest Assisted Living.
I am an active member of LeadingAge Minnesota, Educare Training Solutions through Mirabelle Management, and Alzheimer’s awareness programs. I am also licensed in Food Safe Serve for the State of Minnesota and hold my Licensed Assisted Living Director (LALD) credential.
Alzheimer’s disease and dementia have deeply affected my family. I have lost grandparents to this devastating disease, and I cared for my grandmother in my home until she passed away. Today, I serve as guardian for my uncle, who also resides with me at Woodcrest. These personal experiences have given me a profound understanding of how important it is to find a place where a loved one can age with dignity, peace, and compassionate support.
My Past Experience

Caring for others is not just my career—it is my calling. From a young age, I felt drawn to serving older adults. As a little girl, I spent many afternoons with an aging neighbor who struggled with memory loss. I cleaned for him, cooked what I could, and cherished our time together.
One day, during a routine visit, I found him collapsed on the floor and barely breathing. I immediately called 911 and helped save his life. That moment changed me forever. It showed me the difference one caring person can make, and I knew this was the work I was meant to do.
Our elders are special. They are wise, resilient, and deserving of the highest level of respect and care. My promise to you is simple: you will always have my commitment, my compassion, and open communication. I am here to support you and your loved one every step of the way.
